Purpose and Theme

“1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:

for gaining wisdom and instruction;
    for understanding words of insight;
for receiving instruction in prudent behavior,
    doing what is right and just and fair;
for giving prudence to those who are simple,
    knowledge and discretion to the young—
let the wise listen and add to their learning,
    and let the discerning get guidance—
for understanding proverbs and parables,
    the sayings and riddles of the wise.”

"A sluggard’s appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied. Prov.13:4

"Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. Prov.13:3

"From the fruit of their lips people enjoy good things, but the unfaithful have an appetite for violence. Prov.13:2

"A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, but a mocker does not respond to rebukes. Prov.13:1
