18:1 After Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples across the Kidronǝ valley to a place where there was a garden, which he and his disciples entered. Ma Yesù boŋnǝ mitǝ la, bwo bǝ̀ ngaŋǝ-ndzǝ̀mǝ̀ jwi ti’ì nfu nghǝ nchya mǝmǝ nǝ̀bǝ̀mnǝ̀ nǝ Kindronǝ̀ nti’i nghǝ nkû mǝmǝ nsuŋǝ tsǝ.

18:2 Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, because Jesus often met there with his disciples. Dzudàsǝ̀ ma â fyenǝ̀ yi la a nzhi adi’i zǐ mbǝ’ǝma Yesù kǝ gha’asǝ nghǝ wu bwo bǝ̀ ngaŋǝ-ndzǝmǝ dzwi.

18:3 So Judas brought a detachment of soldiers together with police from the chief priests and the Pharisees, and they came there with lanterns and torches and weapons. Dzudàsǝ̀ ti’i nyìi wu bwo bǝ̀shi-bǝtstǝ’ǝ mâ bǝ̀ bâ nghwe bwo bǝ̀faràsi chyasǝ. Bwo bi’inǝ̀ mǝ̀nkà’à bwo bǝ̀ ǝdzuŋǝ tyǝ̂ mbenǝ̀.

18:4 Then Jesus, knowing all that was to happen to him, came forward and asked them, “Whom are you looking for?” Yesù tɛ̂ nzhi mǝnyù mǝ̀tsǝ̀mǝ̀ ma mǝ bǝ yiì nnu zhǝ. A ghǝtǝ̀ mbiŋsǝ wwa ngǝ, “Bù swà’a wǝ?”

18:5 They answered, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus replied, “I am he.” Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them. Bwo kwe ngǝ, Yesù ŋù Nazarètǝ̀.” Yesù swiŋǝ ngǝ, “Mǝ̀ wìi.” Dzudàsǝ̀ mâ fyenǝ yi la tiŋǝ bwo bwo.

18:6 When Jesus said to them, “I am he,” they stepped back and fell to the ground. Ma Yesù swiŋǝ ngǝ, “Mǝ wìi” la, bwo bû nǝ̀ ndzǝmǝ̀ nti’i nwwokǝ nshyǝ.

18:7 Again he asked them, “Whom are you looking for?” And they said, “Jesus of Nazareth.” A bû mbiŋsǝ wwa ngǝ, “Bû swà’a wǝ? Bwo swiŋǝ ngǝ, “Yesù ŋù Nazarètǝ̀.”

18:8 Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. So if you are looking for me, let these men go.” Yesù swiŋǝ ngǝ, “Mǝ swiŋǝ a mbwo bù ngǝ mǝ wǐ,. Boŋǝ bu swa’a wa bù mɛ̀’ɛ̀tǝ̀ bàtsǝ bi bwo ghǝ.

18:9 This was to fulfill the word that he had spoken, “I did not lose a single one of those whom you gave me.” A boŋnǝ li a bǝ nkò’onyù nzoŋǝ nǝ ànyù zu ma â bi ntɛ swiŋǝ ngǝ, “Ŋù daŋǝ bikakǝ bye atǝtǝ̌ bǝ̀ bu ma ô fyâ nǝ̀ mwò.”

18:10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it, struck the high priest’s slave, and cut off his right ear. The slave’s name was Malchus. Shimunǝ̀ Bità, a fusǝ̀ nnywe zhi ma â yii nǝ̀ zu, nkǝ’ǝ atugǝ̀rǝ abù’u nfò nghwe zǝ mà’a, ntswa. Əlwenǝ abù’ù wi bǝ Marǝshùsǝ̀.

18:11 Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword back into its sheath. Am I not to drink the cup that the Father has given me?” Yesù swiŋǝ a mbwo Bità nghǝ, “Niŋǝ nnywe zhǝ̀ mǝmǝ mba’à zhǐ. Mǝ̀ mbǝ kàkǝ nfoŋǝ wu ma ǝtàa wwa fya nǝ̀ mwò nyǝ?”

18:12 So the soldiers, their officer, and the Jewish police arrested Jesus and bound him. Bǝ sogì bwo bǝ̀ bya bâ nghwe, nǝ bǝshi-bǝtsǝ̀’ǝ bǝ bǝ̀ bǝ Dzudǝ̀nǝ̀ ti’i nko Yesù, nkwɛrǝ yɛ.

18:13 First they took him to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year. Bwo chyambì nlo yi nghǝ nǝ zhǝ a mbwo Ansǝ̀ ma a bǝ nchǐ kayifàsǝ̀ ma â bǝ ǹfò nghwe ngù’u wwa.

18:14 Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jews that it was better to have one person die for the people. kayifasǝ̀ bǝ ŋu wu ma a niŋǝ ntǝǝ atyǝ̂ bǝ Dzusǝ ngǝ a boŋǝ ngǝ ŋù wi mo’o kwo atyǝ̂ bǝ̀ bǝ̀tsǝ̀mǝ̀.

18:15 Simon Peter and another disciple followed Jesus. Since that disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest, Shimunǝ Bità bwo ŋù-ndzǝ̀mǝ̀ wwa wutsǝ̀ ti’i nzoŋǝ nǝ Yesù. Mbǝ’ema ǹfò nghwe zhi ŋu-ndzǝ̀mǝ̀ wu wi la a ti’ì nzoŋǝ nǝ Yesù nkû mǝmǝ̀ nto’o ǹfò nghwe.

18:16 but Peter was standing outside at the gate. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out, spoke to the woman who guarded the gate, and brought Peter in. La Bità tiŋǝ abìi ndzǝmǝ̀ nkha. Ŋù-ndzǝ̀mǝ wwa wu ma ǹf nghwe zhi yi la, a fu bii mboŋnǝ a mbwo mǝ̀ngye wu ma a kǝ tsǐ abù’u-ndya nti’i nlo Bità nku nǝ zhǝ.

18:17 The woman said to Peter, “You are not also one of this man’s disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.” Mǝngye wu biŋsǝ̀ Bità ngǝ “O bǝ ŋ̀u-ndzǝ̀mǝ ŋu wi wutsǝ̀? A Swiŋǝ ngǝ “mǝ̀ bikàkǝ̌ bǝ.

18:18 Now the slaves and the police had made a charcoal fire because it was cold, and they were standing around it and warming themselves. Peter also was standing with them and warming himself. Ŋgaŋǝ-fà’à bwo bǝ̀shi-bǝtsǝ̀’ǝ̀ ti’ì nyesǝ mmu nǝ nkhe ntiŋǝ nkarǝsǝ nzô mbǝ’ǝma m̀fǝ dzwi ǝbii. Bità tiŋǝ bwo bwo nzô mmu.

18:19 Then the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and about his teaching. Ǹfò nghwe ti’i mbiŋsǝ Jesù mbǝ’ǝ ngaŋǝ-ndzèmǝ̀ dzwi nǝ afà’à zhi.

18:20 Jesus answered, “I have spoken openly to the world; I have always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all the Jews come together. I have said nothing in secret. Yesù kwe ngǝ, ” Mǝ̀ nkǝ̂ bòŋnǝ̀ tsɛ̀’ɛ ndanǝ̀ a mbwo mbyi ntsǝ̀mǝ̀. Mǝ̀ nkǝ zi’irǝ bǝ bǝtsǝ̀mǝ̀ a mǝmǝ mǝ̀la’a mǝ Nywe mu ma bǝ Dzusǝ kǝ yìi nkuŋsǝ wǝ. Mǝ bikàkǝ anyu daŋǝ nyɛ̀’ɛtǝ ghǝrǝ.

18:21 Why do you ask me? Ask those who heard what I said to them; they know what I said.” O biŋsǝ wa li ngǝ kǝ̀, biŋsǝ bǝ bǝ̀ bu ma bwo zu’u mǝ̀nyù mu ma mǝ swiŋǝ nǝ̀ bwo; bwo zhi mǝ̀nyù mu ma mǝ swiŋǝ.

18:22 When he had said this, one of the police standing nearby struck Jesus on the face, saying, “Is that how you answer the high priest?” Ma a swiŋǝ li la ŋu shitsǝ’ǝ wu ma a tiŋǝ nǝbenǝ lyi yi nshi zhǝ, nswiŋǝ ngǝ , ” lya mbǝ zu ma o biŋǝ a mbwo ǹfò?”

18:23 Jesus answered, “If I have spoken wrongly, testify to the wrong. But if I have spoken rightly, why do you strike me?” Yesù swiŋǝ ngǝ, Boŋǝ a bǝ ngǝ mǝ̀ swiŋǝ anyù tǝboŋǝ ò swiŋǝ anyu zu ma a bǝǝ̀ wǝ, la boŋǝ mǝ̀ swiŋǝ a ǹkò’onyù, o lii wa la ngǝ kǝ?”

18:24 Then Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest. Anàsǝ̀ ti’i nkwǝrǝ yi nchyasǝ a ghǝ a mbwo Kayifàsǝ̀ ma a bǝ ǹfò nghwe.

18:25 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They asked him, “You are not also one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not.” Shimunǝ Bita tiŋǝ nzo mmu, bǝ biŋsǝ̀ yi ngǝ, “O bǝ ŋù-ndzǝ̀mǝ̀ ŋu wi wùtsǝ̀?” A kî yi nwiŋǝ ngǝ , “Mǝ bikakǝ bǝ.”

18:26 One of the slaves of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Did I not see you in the garden with him? “Ŋù-fà’à ǹfò nghwe wu tsǝ̀, ndǝmǝ ŋù wu ma Bita tswa atugǝrǝ zhi la biŋsǝ̀ yi ngǝ, “zu’u kǝ mǝ ghǝ nzǝ wu zhǝ a mǝmǝ̀ nsùŋǝ̀ lǝ?”

18:27 Again Peter denied it, and at that moment the cock crowed. Bità kǝ mbu nkǐ. Ǹkǝ’ǝ bi ntoŋǝ.

18:28 Then they took Jesus from Caiaphas to Pilate’s headquarters. It was early in the morning. They themselves did not enter the headquarters, so as to avoid ritual defilement and to be able to eat the Passover. Bǝ̌ ti’i nlǒ Yesù ndyâ kayifàsǝ̀ nghǝ nǝ zhǝ nto’o Bìlatùsǝ̀. A bǝ tǝ̀tu’u mbà’amba’a, bwo kàkǝ nswa’a mǝ kunǝ̀ bwo bǝ̀ Yesu mǝmǝ nto’o Bilatùsǝ̀, mǝ ngǝ bwo kǝ ntǝ̀ǝ nǝ wwò busǝ wwa la tɛ njyǝ̂ mǝjyǝ̂ mǝ Paskà mya nshi’inǝ̌.

18:29 So Pilate went out to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?” Bìlatùsǝ̀ fu nkwǝtǝ wwa mbiŋsǝ ngǝ, “Nsa’a wu ma nǝ̀ yi nǝ̀ wu mbǝ’ǝ ŋù wi bǝ̂ ngǝ kǝ̀?”

18:30 They answered, “If this man were not a criminal, we would not have handed him over to you.” Bwo kwe ngǝ, “ŋù wi la ka ŋù tǝ̀boŋǝ bǝ boŋǝ bii bikàkǝ nǝ zhǝ a mbwo wwò yìi.

18:31 Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and judge him according to your law.” The Jews replied, “We are not permitted to put anyone to death.” Bìlatùsǝ̀ swiŋǝ nǝ bwo ngǝ, “A nǝ̀ loo yi nghǝ sa’a mbǝ̀ zu ma ntǝ̀ǝ zǔ dǝ̌ Bwo kwe ngǝ, “Bii bikakǝ nǝ mǝ̀tènǝ̀ mǝ zhwerǝ ŋu dzwi,”

18:32 (This was to fulfill what Jesus had said when he indicated the kind of death he was to die.) (A dzwi li mǝ ghǝrǝnǝ anyu zu ma Yesu swiŋǝ mbǝ’ǝ mbuŋǝ̀ nǝwwo zu ma zhǝ bǝ lyǝ kwo bǝ nko’onyù.)

18:33 Then Pilate entered the headquarters again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Bìlatùsǝ̀ buu nkû mǝmǝ̀ nto’o, ntoŋǝ Yesù mbiŋsǝ yi ngǝ, “Ò bǝ Ǹfò bǝ̀ Dzudǝ̀nǝ̀?”

18:34 Jesus answered, “Do you ask this on your own, or did others tell you about mǝ?” Yesù kwe ngǝ, “Ò biŋsǝ zi li nǝ ngâ zhǝ̀ kǝ a swiŋǝ bǝ bâ daŋǝ bwo wwò mbǝ’ǝ nga za lǝ?

18:35 Pilate replied, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you done?” Bìlatùsǝ̀ swiŋǝ ngǝ. Mǝ bikakǝ Dzusǝ̀ bǝ, kǝ mǝ mbǝ lǝ? Bǝ bǝ ala’a bwo, bwo bǝ fara bâ nghwe yi nǝ̀ wwò a mbwo mwò. Ò gha a la?”

18:36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.” Yesù kwe ngǝ, “Nǝ̀fònǝ̀ zha bikàkǝ bǝ nshyǝ fû. Nǝ̀fònǝ̀ zha bi fû a nshye wi boŋǝ ngàŋə-ndzǝ̀mǝ̀ dzwa tyǝ mǝ fusǝnǝ̀ wa a mbwo bǝ̀ bǝ Dzudǝ̀nǝ̀. La ma a dzwi li, nǝ̀fònǝ̀ zha bikàkǝ zǝ nshyǝ wi bǝ.

18:37 Pilate asked him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” Bìlatùsǝ̀ biŋsǝ yi ngǝ, “A bǝ ngǝ ò bǝ Ǹfò?” Yesù kwe ngǝ, “O swiŋǝ ngǝ mǝ̀ mbǝ̂ Ǹfò. Li anyù zu ma bǝ̂ jwe wa mǝ̀ nyii nshye wi la, mǝ ndǝ̀sǝnǝ̌ nko’onyù. Ŋù ntsǝ̀mǝ̀ wu ma a zòŋǝ nǝ nko’onyù a zu’u abòŋnǝ̀ zha.”

18:38 Pilate asked him, “What is truth?” After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, “I find no case against him. Bìlatùsǝ̀ swiŋǝ ngǝ, “Ǹkò’onyù bǝ kǝ̀?” Ma a swiŋǝ li la nti’i mbu mfû abî nswiŋǝ a mbwo bǝ̀ bǝ Dzudǝ̀nǝ̀ ngǝ, “Mǝ̀ mbikàkǝ ǝbwu dàŋǝ zǝ ma ŋù wi ghǝrǝ “

18:39 But you have a custom that I release someone for you at the Passover. Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?” La bù dzwi nǝ ntǝ̀ǝ ngǝ mǝ fusǝ ŋu-tsaŋǝ wi mò’o a mbwo bù fǝ njwǝ nghwe. Bu swa’a ngǝ mǝ fusǝ Nfò bǝ̀ Dzusǝ̀ wi a mbwo bû?”

18:40 They shouted in reply, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a bandit. Bwo zhwinǝ̀ nǝ mǝ̀tenǝ̀ ngǝ, “kàkǝ bǝ ŋù wi bǝ, bii swà’a bǝ Barabàsǝ̀. Barabàsǝ̀ bi mbǝ la nzɛ̀rǝ̂ tsǝ̌.

19:1 Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. Bìlatùsǝ̀ ti’i nghǝrǝ bǝ wuŋǝ Jesù.

19:2 And the soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they dressed him in a purple robe. Bǝ̀ sogì ti’i nkarǝ atsǝ̀’ǝ̀tyǝ ndzoŋ-ndzoŋǝ nwìi atyǝ zhǝ nkǝ wìi atsǝ̀’ǝ̀ bàŋnǝ̀ nnu zhǝ.

19:3 They kept coming up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and striking him on the face. Nti’i nko’otǝ nshi zhǝ nswiŋǝ ngǝ, “Bìi tsɛ̀’ɛ̀tǝ̂ wwo Nfò bǝ̀ Dzusǝ̀.” Bwo kǝ lyi yi fǝ nshi zhǝ.

19:4 Pilate went out again and said to them, “Look, I am bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no case against him.” Bìlatùsǝ̀ bǔ nfu abii nswiŋǝ nǝ bwo ngǝ, “zǝ nǝ, mǝ yii nǝ zhǝ a mbwo bù mǝ dǝ̀sǝnǝ̀ ngǝ mǝ bikakǝ abwu daŋǝ zǝ ma a ghǝrǝ.”

19:5 So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, “Here is the man!” Yesù a ti’i nfu abi nǝ àtsǝ’ǝtyǝ ndzoŋ-ndzoŋǝ atyǝ̂ zhǝ bwo àtsǝ’ǝ baŋnǝ̀ zha nnu zhǝ. Bìlatùsǝ̀ swiŋǝ ngǝ, “ŋù wu wìi.”

19:6 When the chief priests and the police saw him, they shouted, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and crucify him; I find no case against him.” Bǝ bâ nghwe bwo bǝ̀shi-bǝtsǝ’ǝ zǝ yi nti’i nshwinǝ nǝ mǝ̀tenǝ̀ ngǝ, “Bu’utǝ yi nǝ àbàŋnǝ̀! Bu’utǝ yi nǝ àbàŋnǝ̀!” Bìlatùsè swiŋǝ ngǝ, “A bu lô yi nghǝ bu’utǝ tsɛ’ɛ̀ bùu, me bikàkǝ nsa’a daŋǝ̀ mbǝ’ǝ yi zǝ.”

19:7 The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and according to that law he ought to die because he has claimed to be the Son of God.” Bǝ̀ Dzusǝ̀ swiŋǝ a mbwo zhǝ ngǝ, “Bi dzwi nǝ ntǝ̀ǝ, a mǝmǝ̀ ntǝ̀ǝ zu zha a dzwi mǝ kwonǝ̀ mbǝ’ǝma a swiŋǝ ngǝ zhǝ bǝ Moo Nywè.”

19:8 Now when Pilate heard this, he was more afraid than ever. Ma Bìlatùsǝ zu’u li la mbu nti’i mbo nchyatǝ.

19:9 He entered his headquarters again and asked Jesus, “Where are you from?” But Jesus gave him no answer. A bû nku mǝmǝ̀ nto’o mbiŋsǝ Yesù ngǝ, “Ò fu a fǝ?” La Yesù kakǝ yi kwǝ.

19:10 Pilate therefore said to him, “Do you refuse to speak to me? Do you not know that I have power to release you, and power to crucify you?” Bìlatùsǝ̀ ti’i mbiŋsǝ yi ngǝ, “Ò bǝ̌ kàkǝ a mbwo mwò bòŋnǝ̀? O bikàkǝ zhi ngǝ mǝ̀ ndzwi nǝ̀ mǝ̀tenǝ̀ mǝ mɛ’ɛtǝnǝ̀ wwo nkǝ dzwi nǝ mǝ̀tenǝ̀ mǝ bu’utǝnǝ̀ wwo nǝ abàŋnǝ?”

19:11 Jesus answered him,̄8 “You would have no power over me unless it had been given you from above; therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.” Yesù kwe a mbwo zhǝ ngǝ, “O bikakǝ nǝ mǝ̀tenǝ̀ dzwi ghǝrǝ anyu daŋǝ nnu mwò ma boŋǝ mǝ̀tenǝ̀ mu mya ka bǝ ndǝŋǝ fu; lya bǝ ngǝ ŋu wu ma a fya wa mbwo wwò ǝbwu yi chya wwo.”

19:12 From then on Pilate tried to release him, but the Jews cried out, “If you release this man, you are no friend of the emperor. Everyone who claims to be a king sets himself against the emperor.” Ə lònǝ fǝ’ǝ̀ wu wa Bìlatùsǝ̀ ti’ì nswa’a nduŋǝ mǝ mɛ̀’ɛ̀tǝnǝ̀ Yesù, la bǝ̀ Dzusǝ̀ swiŋǝ nǝ̀ zhǝ ngǝ, “Boŋǝ ò mɛ’ɛtǝ ŋu wi boŋǝ o bǝ̂ kakǝ tanka Kayifàsǝ̀ bǝ̌, mbǝ’ǝma ŋù ntsǝ̀mǝ̀ wu ma a dǝ̌ ngǝ zhǝ bǝ ǹfò bǝ̂ ŋu mbanǝ Kayifàsǝ̀.”

19:13 When Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus outside and sat on the judge’s bench at a place called The Stone Pavement, or in Hebrew Gabbatha. Ma Bìlatùsǝ̀ zu’u aboŋnǝ zi la, nfu nǝ̀ Yesù nti’i nunǝ adi’i sa’a mǝnsa’a ma bǝ kǝ toŋǝ nǝ Abu’u Ngo’o kǝ nǝ àbòŋnǝ ala’a zha ngǝ Gabata.

19:14 Now it was the day of Preparation for the Passover; and it was about noon. He said to the Jews, “Here is your King!” Fǝ̀’ǝ bǝ ma ntǝnùŋǝ̂ njwe wu wa, ma bǝ̂ kǝ lɛrǝ ǝdi’i njwe nghwe Paska. A ti’i nswiŋǝ a mbwo bǝ̀ bǝ Dzudǝnǝ̀ ngǝ, “Ǹfò wwu wi.”

19:15 They cried out, “Away with him! Away with him! Crucify him!” Pilate asked them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but the emperor.” Bwo swiŋǝ nǝ mǝtǝnǝ̀ ngǝ, “Lòo nghǝ nǝ zhǝ! Lòo nghǝ nǝ zhǝ! Bu’utǝ yi nǝ àbàŋnǝ̀!.” Bìlatùsǝ̀ biŋsǝ̀ ngǝ, “A mǝ̀ bu’utǝ̀ Nfò wu nǝ àbàŋnǝ̀?” Bwo swiŋǝ ngǝ, “Bìì bikàkǝ nǝ nfò daŋǝ̀ dzwi chyatǝ Kayifàsǝ̀.

19:16 Then he handed him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus; Bìlatùsè ti’i nfya Yesù a mbwo bwo ngǝ bwo ghǝ bu’utǝ yi nǝ àbàŋnǝ̀. Bwo ti’i nlo Yesu.

19:17 and carrying the cross by himself, he went out to what is called The Place of the Skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha. a ti’ì mbi’i abàŋnǝ̀ zhi nfu nghǝ adi’i wu na bǝ̂ kǝ toŋǝ nǝ àdì’i akwɛ-tyǝ, ma bǝ kǝ toŋǝ nǝ àbòŋnǝ ala’à zha ngǝ Golgotà.

19:18 There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, with Jesus between them. Bwo ti’i mbu’utǝ Yesù wu nkǝ bu’utǝ bǝ bâtsǝ bǝ bya, wi mò’o ala bwo mà’à nǝ wùtsǝ̀ ala abwo ǹkwǝ̀bǝ, Yesù ti’ì ndzwi atǝtǝ̀.

19:19 Pilate also had an inscription written and put on the cross. It read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews. “Bilatùsǝ̀ ti’i ŋwa’arǝ aŋwa’arǝ mbanǝ atyǝ̂ àbàŋnǝ̀ ngǝ, “Yesù ŋù Nazarètǝ̀, Ǹfò bǝ Dzudǝ̀nǝ̀.”

19:20 Many of the Jews read this inscription, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, in Latin, and in Greek. Bǝ bǝ Dzudǝ̀nǝ̀ ba ghà’atǝ toŋtǝ àbòŋnǝ zi mbǝ’ǝma adi’i zu ma bǝ bu’utǝ Yesu wu a dzwi nǝ benǝ toŋǝ̀; bǝ̂ kǝ ŋwa’arǝ nǝ ǝ̀boŋnǝ bǝ Dzusǝ̀ nǝ zǝ̀ Latǝ̀nǝ̀ nǝ zǝ̀ Grikǝ̀.

19:21 Then the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but, ‘This man said, I am King of the Jews.'” Ǹfò nghwe bǝ Dzusǝ̀ swiŋǝ nǝ Bìlatùsǝ̀ ngǝ, “kǝ nǝ ŋwà’àrǝ̀ ngǝ, ‘Ǹfò bǝ̀ bǝ Dzudǝ̀nǝ̀,’ la ŋwà’àrǝ̀ bǝ ngǝ, ‘Ŋù wi swiŋǝ ngǝ zhǝ bǝ Ǹfò bǝ̀ bǝ Dzudǝ̀nǝ̀'”

19:22 Pilate answered, “What I have written I have written.” Bìlatùsǝ̀ swiŋǝ ngǝ, “Ànyù zu ma mǝ̀ ŋwà’àrǝ la mǝ̀ ntɛ̌ ŋwà’àrǝ̂.”

19:23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four parts, one for each soldier. They also took his tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top. Ma bǝ̀sogi bu’utǝ yi la nti’i nlo ǝtsǝ’ǝ dzwi nghatǝ nǝ ǝ̀dì’ì dzwi nǝkwà, ŋu tsǝmǝ lo adi’i mo’o. Bwo kǝ nlo atsǝ’ǝ zhi zǝ nghwe ma a bikàkǝ nǝ abu’u daŋǝ dzwi, bǝ ghǝrǝ tsɛ’ɛ̀ sǝbǝrǝ lǒ ako’onǝ tso ku’u ntenǝ.

19:24 So they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see who will get it.” This was to fulfill what the scripture says, “They divided my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast lots.” Bwo ti’i nswiŋǝ atǝtǝ bwo ngǝ a binǝ kǝ nǝ sa, a binǝ̀ tǝmǝ abrǝ̀ wu mǝ nzǝnǝ ŋu wu ma a bǝ lǒ.” Â dzwi li mǝ ghǝ̀rǝnǝ aŋù zu ma Aŋwà’àrǝ̀ Ŋwà’anǝ̀ swiŋǝ a bǝ nkò’onyù ngǝ, “Bwo ghatǝ ǝtsǝ’ǝ dzwa a tǝtǝ bwo, nkǝ tǝmǝ abrǝ̀ nǝ atsǝ’ǝ za zǝ̀ nghwe.”

19:25 And that is what the soldiers did. Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. Lya kǝ mbǝ anyu zu ma bǝ̀sogì ghǝrǝ la. Màriyà mma bǝ̀ Yesù ti’i ntiŋǝ nǝbǝnǝ abàŋnǝ̀ bwo bǝ Màriyà mǝ̀ngyê Klofàsǝ̀ nǝ Màriya Màgdàlenà.

19:26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Ma Yesu zǝ mmâ yi ma a tiŋǝ nǝbenǝ ŋu-kù yi wu ma a lanǝ nkòŋǝ̀ la, a swiŋǝ nǝ mma yi ngǝ, “Mǝ̀ngyê, li bǝ moo wwò.”

19:27 Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home. nkǝ swiŋǝ a mbwo ŋù-kù yi wwa ngǝ, “Li bǝ mma wwò.” Ə lǒnǝ fǝ’ǝ̀ wu wwa ŋù-kù yi wwa ti’i nlo yi bwo zhǝ ghǝ ndyâ zhǝ.

19:28 After this, when Jesus knew that all was now finished, he said (in order to fulfill the scripture), “I am thirsty.” Ma Yesù ghǝrǝ zu zi nti’i nzhi ngǝ mǝ̀nyù mǝ̀tsǝ̀mǝ̀ mye la, (mǝ lwensǝnǝ anyù zu ma Àŋwà’àrǝ̀ Ŋwà’ànǝ̀ swiŋǝ), A swiŋǝ ngǝ, “Njì nkyî zaŋǝ wa”.

19:29 A jar full of sour wine was standing there. So they put a sponge full of the wine on a branch of hyssop and held it to his mouth. Ntò mǝ̀lù’ù mâ tsǝ̀nǝ̂ tsǝ̀ tiŋǝ nǝbenǝ. Bǝ lǒ kwùchya niŋǝ mǝmǝ mǝ̀lù’ù mu nti’i ndòŋsǝ nǝ atì nko’osǝ nghǝsǝ ntsu zhǝ.

19:30 When Jesus had received the wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. Ma â kwe mǝ̀lù’ù mu la nti’i nswiŋǝ ngǝ, “A myǝ.”Nti’i nzǝ̀ŋsǝ atyǝ̂ zhi nti’i nkwo.

19:31 Since it was the day of Preparation, the Jews did not want the bodies left on the cross during the sabbath, especially because that sabbath was a day of great solemnity. So they asked Pilate to have the legs of the crucified men broken and the bodies removed. Ma â bǝ̂ njwe ma njwe bǝ̂ ti’i laa bǝ njwǝ la’a la, bǝ Dzusǝ̀ kàkǝ nswà’à mǝ mɛ̀’ɛ̀tǝnǝ̀ ǝkwu bǝ̀ nǝ ǝ̀bàŋnǝ̀ njwe la’a, ̌mbǝ’ǝma njwe zu zha kǝ mbǝ tǝkò’ò njwe nghwe. Bwo bu’u mbwo a mbwo Bìlatùsǝ̀ ngǝ â mɛ̀’ɛ̀tǝ bǝ bǝ̀’ǝ̀tǝ mǝkù mya nti’i nshwi’isǝ wwa nǝ àbàŋnǝ̀.

19:32 Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who had been crucified with him. Bǝ̀sogì ti’ì nyìi mbǝ̀’ǝ̀ akù ŋu ǹchyàmbì bwo wùtsǝ̀ wu ma bǝ̂ bu’utǝ̀ wwa bǝ̀ Yesù la.

19:33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. Ma bwo yìi nkù’ù nu Yesù nzǝ ngǝ à tɛ̌ nkwo la, bwo kakǝ̌ zhi akù bǝ̀’ǝ.

19:34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once blood and water came out. La ŋù sogì wwa wî mò’o lǒ nǝ̀kòŋǝ̀ nshǝ ngi zhi, ǹkyi bwo ǝ̀liŋǝ kǝ̂ mbi nfu wu ngâ mò’o.

19:35 (He who saw this has testified so that you also may believe. His testimony is true, and he knows that he tells the truth.) (Ŋu wu ma â zǝ â biŋǝ̀, mǝ ngǝ ò kǝ mbiŋǝ. Ànyù zu ma â zǝ bǝ nkò’onyù, a kǝ̀ zhi ngǝ zhǝ swiŋǝ a nkò’onyù.)

19:36 These things occurred so that the scripture might be fulfilled, “None of his bones shall be broken.” Mǝnyù mi mǝtsǝ̀mǝ chya mǝ ghǝ̀rǝnǝ ànyù zu ma Àŋwà’àrǝ Ŋwà’anǝ̀ swiŋǝ a bǝ nkò’onyù ngǝ, “Akwɛ̌ zhi zǝdaŋǝ lyǝ kǝ̂ bǝ̀’ǝnǝ̀.”

19:37 And again another passage of scripture says, “They will look on the one whom they have pierced.” Adi’ì Aŋwà’arǝ̀ Ŋwa’anǝ tsǝ kǝ mbu nswiŋǝ ngǝ, “Bwo bǝlya lìi ŋù wu ma bwo shǝ la.”

19:38 After these things, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, though a secret one because of his fear of the Jews, asked Pilate to let him take away the body of Jesus. Pilate gave him permission; so he came and removed his body. Ma mǝ̀nyù mî mǝtsǝ̀mǝ̀ chya la, Yòsebǝ̀ ma â fu fǝ Àrimàtiyà, ma â bi bǝ ŋù-ndzǝ̀mǝ̀ Yesù bǝ nyɛ̀’ɛtǝ mbǝ’ǝma â kǝ boo bǝ bǝ Dzudǝ̀nǝ̀. A ghǝ mbu’utǝ mbwo a mbwo Bìlatusǝ̀ ngǝ mɛ̀’ɛtǝ zhǝ lô akwu Yesù. Bìlatùsǝ̀ ti’i nfyâ mǝtenǝ̀ a mbwo zhǝ â ti’i nghǝ nshwi’isǝ akwu Yesù.

19:39 Nicodemus, who had at first come to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, weighing about a hundred pounds. Nikodemùsǝ̀ ma â bi nkwe mbì ghǝ nzǝ Yesù bǝ nǝtwù’u, a yìi nǝ mǝ̀wurǝ mâtsǝ ma bǝ̂ nyamǝ nǝ̀ ǝ̀zà ma bǝ kǝ toŋǝ nǝ mǝǝ bwo alosǝ, mǝ̂ lanǝ ndrǝ.

19:40 They took the body of Jesus and wrapped it with the spices in linen cloths, according to the burial custom of the Jews. Bwo shwi’isǝ akwu Yesù nti’i nkwerǝ bwo mǝ̀wurǝ mi a mǝmǝ àtsǝ̀’ǝ tsǝ mbǝ̀ zu ma nòŋsǝ̀ twiŋǝ ŋu bǝ̀ bǝ Dzudǝ̀nǝ̀ dǝ̀sǝ̂.

19:41 Now there was a garden in the place where he was crucified, and in the garden there was a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid. Ǹsùŋǝ tsǝ dzwi adi’i wu ma bǝ̂ bu’utǝ Yesù wu la. A mǝmǝ̀ nsuŋǝ wu àdi’i nǝshyǝ zǝ mfyi dzwi wu ma bǝ brǝtǝ̂ ŋù dàŋǝ̀ wu tǝ̂ twiŋǝ.

19:42 And so, because it was the Jewish day of Preparation, and the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there. Əlya, mbǝ̀’ǝ̀ma â bǝ njwe ma bǝ̂ kǝ lɛrǝ ǝdi’i ma njwe bǝ laa ti’i bǝ njwe nghwe, àdì’ì nǝshyǝ zi kǝ ndzwi nǝbǝnǝ la, bwo ti’i twiŋǝ Yesù wǝ.
